I also thought it was excellent. My question though – why was Jesus inserted into it? At two points singers invoke his name. Nothing against Christianity, but he wasn’t in the original, and there are a lot more people practising various other religions in America today than when Woody composed this. (And I have no problem when people call America a “Christian country”, considering the USA’s history.) That aside, a great production.
David – I had the same reaction. It was unnecessary to include a reference to Jesus and I considered not posting this on my blog, but I thought it was so moving and beautifully done, I over-ruled myself and shared it. Thanks for your comment!
